Termite Control

TERMITES – SUBTERRANEAN

TERMITES were once known as “White Ants” they live in social communities. The nymph stage of termites develops into few different castes; all these castes contribute in an individual way to the growth of the colony. The termite is the one of the world’s oldest forms of life (200 million year). The queen termite lays 2000 eggs per day & lives for almost 25 year. There are about 3000 species of termites worldwide and in Sri Lanka there are 61 species of termites.

Termite

  1. It is a Violation under control of pesticides Act 33 of 1980. And Its amendments thereafter to sell any termiticides to the open market except licensed pest control operators.
  2. Due to termiticide runoff we do not recommend to treat liquid soil treatment in areas which contains 100% sea sand there are treatment options available for such situations.

OVERVIEW

The Action Pest Control is intended to serve as a model for termite treatment in Sri Lanka standard sets out requirements for the design and construction of subterranean termite management systems for pre constructions new and old buildings it includes performance criteria general requirements solutions for chemical termite barriers throughout Sri Lanka. A range of options are available so that barriers may be used either singly or in combination to provide an integrated Termite Management Systems.

ECONOMIC IMPACT

TERMITES are considered pests because they use finished timber for food, They attack buildings, furniture and other wooden objects. Termites also destroys products other than wood such as paper, books, clothing and leather items. In US termites cause US$ 5 billion worth of damages annually. Its almost 10% of the Sri Lankan GDP.

TERMITICIDE

Very few pesticides managed become termiticides of the thousands of compounds tested. Even after the products reaches the market, subsequent factors may later cause it to be withdrawn. All termiticides listedbelow are registered by Registrar of Pesticides of Dept. of Agriculture Sri Lanka. Approved by the WHO, Environmental Protection Agency EPA & United States Department of Agriculture.

POST CONSTRUCTION – STRUCTURAL TERMITE CONTROL

POST construction treatments are defined to treatments to OLD buildings or for structures which have completed the final grading for the purpose of controlling current termite infestation or protection from future termite infestations. Establishing a comprehensive liquid termiticide barrier after a structure is built its more difficult. The most important factor of the POST construction treatment is continuescontinous termite inspections and audits once a year or for every two treatments.

POST CONSTUCTION TERMITE TREATMENT

We will do drilling 16-18 mm holes at 3feet intervals along the interior perimeter 4-6 inches away from the wall and inject residual termiticide solution under pressure into the holes to create barrier against termites we will clean the treated area and we will cover the holes.

We will be spraying wooden fixtures termiticide if infested by the termites within the premises.

We will treat to termite tubes will be then removed and treatment will be given to infested areas.

Exterior treatment-18-20mm diameter holes will be drilled at 01 meter intervals along the exterior perimeter 4-6 inches from the wall. We will clean the treated area and will cover the drilled holes. Depth of the hole should be not less than 12 inches. Termiticide will be inject according to the Termiticide label. Drill 3-4mm diameter holes along windows & doorframes external if infested by termites. And inject termite solution from a hand sprayer.

INTERIOR TREATMENT

18-22 mm diameter holes will be along the interior perimeter of the building at 4 feet Intervels not more than 6 inches away from the wall.

We will clean the treated area and will cover the drilled holes.

Potential HOT SPOTS treatment such as inside the pantry, under staircase , storage areas, basements will also be drilled if necessary.

Ceiling treatment is not included.

3-5 mm diameter hole should be drilled on the edges of all window and door frames.

3-5 mm diameter hole will be drilled between pantry and the wall at 12 inch intervals, If cannot spray the termiticide from top.

All entry points of the termite mud trails will be sprayed.

Inject TERMITE DOTS using syringe.

Treat all window & door frames and skirting.

Treat termiticide between wall and the roof if infested.

EXTERIOR PERIMETER TREATMENT

18-20 mm diameter holes will be drilled at 4 feet intervals along the exterior perimeter, 4-6 inches away from the wall.

We will clean the treated area and will cover the drilled holes

Depth of the holes should be not less than 12 inches.

Termiticide will be injected according to the termiticide label.

Drill 3 – 4 mm diameter holes along windows & door frames external.

Treat all window and door frames.

Treat all tree roots up to 3 feet away from the structure.

SAFETY

All the termiticides are harmful if swallowed, absorbed through skin or inhaled. Do not breathe spray mist. Wash thoroughly with soap after handling termiticide.

ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARDS

Life on earth depends on a very complex set of interactions between different life forms. Examination of the extent to which humans disrupt this arrangement is a relatively recent concern but one that is rapidly growing. The direct and indirect effects of pesticides on wildlife, waterways and the environment at large may be harmful and entirely undesirable. The action pest control will voluntarily take the responsibility to minimize the risk to non target insects and the environment.

RESTRICTIONS DURING AND AFTER TREATMENT
